Question:
Thank you very much for answering my question! Yes, I do already have the bike rack and so it would be nice if I could adapt it. I’d be happy to buy the little Glass Hatch Hook Adapter for Yakima Trunk Mounted Bike Carrier # Y02612 to give me internal anchors, but I have no clue how to work it?

The Thule OutWay # TH56BV is not a confirmed fit on your 2017 BMW 220i. For your vehicle, the inside of your tailgate does require a different fit. I recommend the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # Y02634 or 3 Bike # Y02633. When you look at the attached instructions the upper hooks must be changed and installed in anchor mode on your vehicle. This allows the inside of the hatch to carry the weight and not the outside trim.
If you already have the OutWay Carrier, then you may want to consider the Glass Hatch Hook Adapter for Yakima Trunk Mounted Bike Carrier # Y02612 to give you internal anchors.
You may also want to consider the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes # 64005 to allow you level transport and the Softride Soft Hook-and-Loop Tie Downs for Bike Racks # SR54FR to keep the front wheels from contact with your vehicle or other bikes.
