what brake controller should I get for my 2018 Toyota 4Runner and how will it install? I have a 7-way round trailer wiring connector at the rear of the vehicle.

For your 2018 Toyota 4Runner the best brake controller I would recommend is the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. To install it in your 2018 4Runner only requires the install harness # 3041-P which is designed to fit your vehicle. This plugs into the back of the controller and then into the port under the dash of your vehicle. Check out the install video I attached that shows a similar 2013 4Runner having a brake controller installed.
