Recommended Sway Reduction When Using Roadmaster Tow Dolly Behind Motor Coach

Updated 09/24/2018 | Published 09/22/2018

Question:

We purchased a used tow dolly. First time out towing behind the motorcoach we got terrible sway. We reduced speed to 50 and it was better. What could be the issue?

The Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes # RM-2050-1 does not have an integrated sway control. Most of the sway you would experience is from either an uneven/off-center load or the current driving conditions. I recommend also checking the deck swivel location and also make sure to run through your driving checklist before each trip.

If you want to further control sway, the best option is to utilize the trailer brakes on your dolly using the Tuson Electronic Sway Control System for Electric Trailer Brakes - 1 to 4 Axles # 335TSC-1000. This system is designed to be installed on the center of a trailer about 5-10 feet from the hitch ball, but will work for this application as long as it is installed to the center frame rail.

If you don't already have a rear anti-sway bar on your motor coach, that would also assist with the sway you are experiencing.
