Question:
I have a 2015 Lexus GX 460 w/o the auto leveling suspension. I am planning to purchase a trailer in the future, but will be renting a few initially to see how my family likes the experience. Since well be renting trailers, the Reese Strait-Line hitches arent an option as they require drilling into the trailer frame. On our upcoming trip well be towing a Lance 1995 which has a GVWR of 5700 lbs and a tongue weight including propane and batteries of 550 lbs. The capacities on the Lexus are 6000 towing and 600 llbs tongue weight. Will this Blue Ox work well or are there better options to consider?

When choosing a weight distribution (WD) system you will first need to determine your total tongue weight (TTW) and then make sure that this number falls in the middle of the tongue weight (TW) range of your WD system. You can find your TTW by adding the loaded TW of your trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2015 Lexus GX 460.
A properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the weight of the loaded trailer. Since you will be using a variety of trailers I highly recommend investing in a TW scale # e99044 to make sure you get your TW correct every time as this will help with how the trailer rides. If the GVWR of the 1995 Lance is 5,700 lbs then your TW should be at least 570 lbs and at the max should be 855 lbs.
With all of that being said, I do recommend going with the Fastway e2 system because they all use the same head unit so all you have to do is swap out the bars for a variety of applications. If your loaded TW will be within the 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs then the part # FA92-00-1000 is the system that you need. You also need a hitch ball like the part # 63840 which is 2-5/16".
Like I said, the bars are interchangeable and all you have to do is look at how many dots are on them to determine the tongue weight rating. All of the available bars are as follows:
250 lbs - 600 lbs - # FA92-01-0699
400 lbs - 800 lbs - # FA92-01-0899
600 lbs - 1,000 lbs - # FA92-01-1099
800 lbs - 1,200 lbs - # FA92-01-1299
It is very unlikely that you will use the higher rated bars with your Lexus GX 460 but if your family ends up really liking the camping experience and you end up using a pickup that can tow more I went ahead and listed them for you to reference.
