Which Direction Should Star Wheel of Brake Assembly Move to Tighten Brakes
Published 09/06/2018 >
Question:
For these hydraulic drum brakes, which direction click up or down controls which action expand or contract shoes? And is it identical between left and right? I can figure this out by trial and error, but would like to avoid this. Thanks.

The adjustment star on brake assemblies like the # AKUBRK-35-D needs to turn counter-clockwise to expand the shoes so you'd need to click the star "up" to tighten the brakes or "down" to loosen them as you'd view them from the back of the assemblies.
You will adjust the brakes using that wheel until there is a slight but constant drag of the shoe pads on the drum. I have included a link to a video and at about the 4:39 mark our installed begins adjusting the brakes.
