Tire Capacity When Towing with 2018 Ford F-150 with Max Tow Package

Question:

The not quite passenger but standard load tires that came on my 18 F150 max load rating is 2750lbs. @35psi with a tire max of of 51psi. The rear axle weight rating for the truck is 3800lbs. The truck curb weight 4946lbs. Question is, is there a formula/rule of thumb for figuring out how much the rear axle curb weight is without any payload to see how much weight is already on the rear tires so I can know if I NEED better LT/XL/E+ tires for towing a tongue wt of 550-700lbs~? If Im rounding and generalizing erring toward safety, minus the 700 for tongue wt leaves 2000. 2/3 of the truck wt is engine and cab so leaves about 1700 over the rear wheels. So with 2/3 the weight of the family in the cab and no payload in the bed, I would be close with all the rounding toward safety but not over, towing with these tires that came on the F150 with MAX Towing Package but not the wheel/tire combination to tow at the manufactured max tow capasities..... Does this math make sense or am I missing something?

For your 2018 Ford F-150, I did some research and found that the curb weight of your front axle is 2,604 lbs and the rear axle curb weight is 1,925 lbs. The load rating of 2750 would then put the weight of your rear axle plus the load at 4,675 lbs. You cut that number in half for each wheel and as long as your tires can carry 2,337-1/2 lbs each you are still within their capacity. Adding the trailer tongue weight to that will not be much different as you still divide that over your two rear tires.

1,751 lbs is what is your max payload according to the information I found, so your math seems on to me. Check your tire max capacity, but it sounds like you will be well within their capacity. I recommend you look at the 2018 Ford F-150 Towing Guide to give you all the specifics for your truck for towing.
