Question:
I have a small boat trailer with 4.8/4-8-B tires. I want to take my boat to a lake approx. 2.5 hours away and requires mostly highway travel with speed limit of 70 MPH. Can I run this trailer with these tires on the highway or should I change the tires and rims to a larger size?

Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 # AM10002 is rated for a maximum of 65 miles per hour. Exceeding the speed rating will generate excessive heat and can lead to failure. We do have some options rated higher but only in tire and wheel combos with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern but not with the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern.
For a 4 on 4 bolt pattern we have # AM30000 this tire and wheel combo is rated for 65 miles per hour.
You could go up to a larger tire size provided that you have clearance all around the existing tires to accommodate the larger size. Going up to a 4.80-12 is a big jump in height so if the trailer has fenders it would likely be too much of a jump in height (overall a 4-1/2 inch increase in height).
