Will Weight Distribution be Needed if Using RoadActive Suspension on a 2015 Silverado 1500

Question:

My travel trailer is 5,600# empty with gross weight of 7,000#. The tongue weight is about 650#. Will the active suspension eliminate the need for a WD hitch? Tow vehicle is a 2015 Silverado 4x4, crew cab, 6.5foot bed.

Suspension enhancement products such as RoadActive Suspension # RAS3611-S serve a different purpose than weight distribution. Suspension enhancement is designed more for loads carried in the tow vehicle whereas weight distribution is meant to redistribute tongue weight from a trailer across all axles of the tow vehicle and trailer more evenly.

The product to use to combat rear end sag is a weight distribution system. However, often times the suspension on 1/2 ton trucks will still allow the vehicle to sag. In many cases the only way to eliminate the sag completely is to use both suspension enhancement and weight distribution.

What I recommend for you is to try one or the other first to see if it does what you need it to. If your primary concern is towing then I would go with a weight distribution system first. For a trailer tongue weight of 600 pounds I recommend Fastway system # FA94-00-0800 rated for up to 800 pounds tongue weight. This system also has built-in sway control for added stability when towing. The only other part needed is a ball, # 63840.

If you do more hauling in the truck bed than towing then going with the suspension enhancement would be the place to start.
