Recommended Pad Type Heater for 1-Gallon Water Tank

Updated 08/07/2018 | Published 08/06/2018

Question:

I am in need of a small immersion heater similar to Item # KH30904. I am not using it for automotive but in an automatic animal waterer. My capacity is 1 gallon. Can you tell me or give me an idea of the cut-off temperature of this unit? Or tell me if you have one with a 1/2inch Npt connection and a maximum of a 4 inch long heating probe that will cut-off between 40 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks

Since you have an unusual application with only 1 gallon of water to protect from freezing I suggest you consider options other than the immersion heater # KH30904. Also note that this item is not rated for use with drinking water supplies.

Kat's Heaters also offer heaters in a pad type, such as # KH24500 (500 watts), # KH24250 (250 watts) and # KH24100 (100 watts). These are installed with the included 3M adhesive pad. The 100 watt model # KH24100 is ideal for water tanks up to 2-gallon capacity. I was not able to get you the specific on/off temperatures.

They also make magnetic heaters like # KH1155 which work on tanks made of ferrous material.

Using a pad or magnetic heater is safer and easier than an immersion type. The part you referenced # KH30904 is the only option with a 1/2-inch NPT fitting.
