Trailer Tongue Length Required to Install Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator
Updated 07/25/2018 | Published 07/23/2018 >
Question:
How much clear space at the front end of the tongue is required for this unit? I presently have a swing-away hinge that leaves only about 10 inches of clear space back from the front end of the tongue. I can replace the tongue tubing in front of the hinge with a longer piece if needed.

I reached out to a representative of Demco who told me that the outer case of the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8669113 needs 18" of space on the trailer tongue to bolt on.
Additionally, you will need between 2" and 4" of clearance behind the actuator to get the brake line attached to the master cylinder.
You will need only 2" if you have a pre-bent brake line/hose with a 90 degree fitting or 4" if you have a straight hose or hard line that needs to make the 90 degree bend.
