Question:

I have a Falcon 5250 Tow Bar and I would like to Tow my 2007 Jeep Wrangler jx behind my Motorhome. What base plates would I need .,What is the differance between the RM-520 and the 5250 Roadmaster tow bars.

For your 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK, X model, there are a couple of different base plate options depending on how the vehicle is equipped. If it does NOT have an aftermarket bumper, winch, or guard, you can use # 1429-1. If it does have a Mopar/Warn bumper, use # 1430-1. Both sets of base plates are compatible with the Falcon Tow Bar, # RM-520.

In addition to the base plates and tow bar, you will also need safety cables, lighting, and a supplemental braking system in the Wrangler. For safety cables, I recommend the coiled cables, # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables from touching the ground.

For lighting, there are several options depending on your specific needs and how often you will be towing the vehicle. I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains the options.

Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to set up and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

The differences between the Falcon 2, # RM-520, and Falcon, # 5250, are very few. The Falcon 2 tow bar is the newer generation of the Falcon tow bar. You should have no problems using your Falcon 5250 tow bar with the Roadmaster base plates you select, as long as the crossbar is the original crossbar for Roadmaster base plates. The largest difference between these tow bars is that the newer # RM-520 tow bar is rated for 6,000 pounds and the Older # 5250 is rated for 5000 pounds. The other difference is that the # RM-520 uses a metal spring clip to hold the tow bar up in the stowed position and the # 5250 uses a pin and clip for the stowed position.
