Replacement ST205/75R14 Tires for T@B Max S Camper

Updated 07/03/2018 | Published 06/30/2018

Question:

I have a 2016 T@B Max S originally from Little Guy, now Nucamp RV. The small tear travel trailer is an A-frame that measures about 15 foot from coupler to license plate. When purchased, it was 1670 lbs dry weight. But, as we did have it weighed at a CAT scales recently and it came in at just under 2000 lbs with all the stuff inside. We have traveled about 10K miles in the unit on the original tires that are listed as 205/75R14. I have checked the tire treads and although they appear decent, I think it may be time to at least begin looking for a replacement. I have checked various forums for a good recommendation Goodyear Endurance seems to be a popular model on the forums I have read. Anyway, I wanted to ask advice on a recommendation for a replacement tire for the trailer. Also, I have read a few postings about upgrading the rim size. I am not sure what that does for me, but wanted to ask if this was an option if there is a benefit. This is our first travel trailer and obviously the first time we have had to deal with a tire replacement, so any assistance on advice is appreciated.

We do have a nice selection of 205/75R14 size trailer tires available.

The most important factor when selecting replacement tires is just making sure that the combined load capacity for the tires meets or exceeds the loaded weight of the trailer. This means that you will want each tire on your T@B camper to have at minimum a 1,000 pound load capacity, but ideally a bit more for a comfortable safety margin.

For replacement tires, I highly recommend the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234. This radial ply tire features a maximum load of 1,925 pounds at 60 psi and an excellent speed rating of 81 mph. It will provide you with a smooth ride and superior stability at highway speeds.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this tire that you can also check out.

With regards to upgrading the tire or wheel size on your trailer, there are a couple of things you will want to look at. Generally speaking, as long as you have the needed wheel well and trailer frame clearance, there's no particular reason that you can't put larger tires on a trailer than what came with it from the factory. People may do this for a variety of reasons, ranging from adding a bit of ground clearance to the trailer to needing the higher load capacity that a larger tire would provide.

In your particular case, the available trailer tires in the factory 205/75R14 size have more than enough capacity for the camper's weight so there isn't really a need for an upgrade in terms of weight rating. As long as you are happy with your current ride and aren't running into any ground clearance issues on the camper, I recommend simply sticking with the same size you currently have.

I have attached a great FAQ on trailer tires that you might also find helpful in your tire search.
