Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2009 Ford F-150 STX 4.6L

We have a few excellent transmission coolers that would be great additions to your 2009 Ford F-150 STX, but they will each be a little larger than your factory cooler and rightfully so since you will be towing a 7,000 lbs trailer.

My best recommendation is the Derale Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit, # D13402. The stacked-plate coolers are the most efficient tranny coolers on out there, so you can rest assured that it will be doing the most to keep your transmission fluid cool when towing. This can be particularly helpful if you are towing during the summer in hot climates such as the dessert. This cooler won't mount the same way as your factory cooler, but you can use the bracket kit, # D50020 to mount the cooler.

Another cooler that will definitely get the job done is the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Cooler, # D13504. This cooler is quite a bit larger than your factory cooler and the stacked-plate cooler, but it will be more efficient than the factory cooler and it is rated up to Class IV towing capacities. The stacked-plate cooler mentioned above also has a Class IV capacity rating. The Series 8000 cooler comes with zip-ties to mount directly to your radiator.

The correct hose fittings for your truck will depend on the thread type used on your current line fittings. If your current fitting threads are 1/2"-20, then you will want part # D13024.
