Helpful Expert Reply:
A 1995 Chevy 3/4 Ton Van has a towing capacity between 7,068 and 10,000 lbs. You will need to look at your owners manual for more specifics on your unique vehicle. There will also be a sticker inside the driver's door jamb to give you information on your towing capacity specific to your vehicle. You will see there the GVWR of your vehicle and the GCWR to allow you to determine your towing capacity. You will simply subtract the gross vehicle weight rating from the gross combined weight rating to get your towing capacity.
Your hitch will have a separate rating which normally exceeds the rating of the vehicle. For instance the Draw-Tite # 41121 has a tongue weight rating of 500 lbs with a 5,000 lbs towing capacity. Then with weight distribution it jumps to 1,000 lbs tongue weight and 10,000 lbs towing. You will most likely be restricted to the capacity of your vehicle, but whichever is less will be your max towing capacity.
