i need to flat tow a 2001 honda crv.. only once.. how do i install a generic tow bar.. what do i connect the bar to on the crv?

To be quite honest with you, it would probably end up being cheaper to rent a car trailer if you are only going to tow the vehicle once. But I will be happy to go over the parts required to flat tow your 2001 Honda CR-V.
To start, you will need base plates. Base plates provide a safe and secure attachment point for a tow bar. The most economical base plates for your CR-V are Base Plates, # 1528-3. For a tow bar, you can use the Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020.
You will also need safety cables, lighting, and a braking system on the CR-V. For safety cables, I recommend the coiled cables, # RM-643. The coiled design will help keep the cables from touching the ground.
For lighting, there are several solutions but since you will only be towing it one time, the best route would be to use a magnetic light kit, # RM-2120. This kit has a magnetic bases that will stick to any flat metal surface. The other end connects to a 4-Way flat trailer connector.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to set up and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking saving wear and tear on both vehicles.
