Does the Bumper have to be Trimmed on a 2010 Chevy Cobalt to Install a CURT Trailer Hitch

Updated 09/12/2011 | Published 09/10/2011

Question:

We are installing a Curt receiver hitch model 11430 to a 2010 Chevy Cobalt Sedan not the SS. It seems like we will have to trim out some of the plastic rear bumper in order to install this receiver hitch. Is this the only way to install this - by trimming the bumper? Do you have any other suggestions for the install so we dont have to trim the bumper? If we have to trim the bumper, wont part of the bumper be without the four 4 clips that attach it to the bumper/frame? Please advise accordingly. Thank you very much

According to the installation instructions which I have linked for you, you will not need to trim any of the rear bumper or fascia to install CURT Trailer Hitch, # 11430. The rear air dam needs to be removed but nothing is trimmed.

This hitch comes with a ball mount, pin and clip. If you plan on doing some towing you will need a ball and trailer wiring. For a ball, use # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter). For trailer wiring, use # 118398. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view.
