Would Pulling Pin of Trailer Breakaway Kit Work as Anti-Theft Device
Updated 06/13/2018 | Published 06/12/2018 >
Question:
I have to store my trailer in a storage lot. For security purposes should I remove the ebrake tether and pin from my Big Tex 70P controller while in storage so someone does not steal it or the trailer? Will this be a problem with the battery dying when I go to pick it up to tow when needed? Or should I just leave the tether and pin connected while in storage?

Expert Reply:
If you pulled the pin of your breakaway kit the brakes would be held for as long as the battery of the trailer could provide the amperage to activate the brakes. It wouldn't be long enough at all to be an effective anti-theft device so that wouldn't be a great route for an anti theft solution.
Instead I'd recommend a wheel lock like the Rack Em Magnum Wheel Lock part # RA-25 to keep the trailer from being moved.
