Updated 05/15/2018 | Published 05/12/2018 >
Question:
I just purchased a 1980 Skyline Layton, and the tires are completely dry rotted. I have found out that it wears ST225/75 R15 load range C, it also has 5 lugs. Here are my questions, what tires should I get? what load size? what about the lugs, it has five rusted ones on each tire, I need new ones? How do I know if its 5 4 1/2, I thought all five lug tires were 5 4 1/2, but know I see 5 5, does the year its made make a difference? How do I check this difference?

In order to replace the tires on your 1980 Skyline Layton, I recommend the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10256. These tires have a radial construction which will be better for long highway hauls and a load range D rating which will be sufficient for a trailer up to 10,160 lbs. They also have a 2-year warranty.
If you are looking to replace both the wheel and tire then I would need to know the bolt pattern in addition to the pilot hole opening of the wheel. You have hub-piloted trailer wheels so the pilot hole opening of the trailer hub will need to match the pilot hole opening of the wheel. You can use the attached help article to determine what bolt pattern you have. This will require measuring. The year of the trailer will not necessarily pertain to which bolt pattern you have.
In order to replace your wheel bolts you will need to measure their length, diameter, and pitch. Once you have these three bits of information then you can take a look at the attached selection of wheel bolts and choose the one that matches you existing wheel bolts.
