Question:
Still unable to connect unit. I took the car to the local RV dealer. They were unable to connect it--find the wire to connect the red wire. Scheduled an appointment with a Chev/GMC local dealer--service department. They would not work on the installation due to potential damage to the vehicle braking system. GM does not have a system available to connect to camper electric brakes. What have other customers done to connect the unit?

If you are unable to locate the correct terminal on your 2016 GMC Terrain's BCM to connect the brake controller red wire to, I recommend testing the brake switch wires beneath the brake pedal with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Test each wire to see if you can find one that receives power only when the brake pedal is depressed. If you are able to locate this wire, this is where you connect the red wire from the controller to. I was not able to verify the wire color on your Terrain, so you will just want to test each one.
If you are still unable to find the correct wire to tap into, I recommend talking with a GM dealer to see if they can point you to the correct terminal on the BCM to use.
