The converter box included with the vehicle wiring harnesses for this vehicle will avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. The converter box does this by drawing power directly from vehicle's battery as opposed to from each individual light circuit. For your 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I recommend using the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C55349 if you do not have the factory tow package or part # C55260 if you do have the factory tow package.
