Question:

I have a 2016 TandC with factory installed towing package. It has a 2 inch square hitch and a 7 way plug. There is not enough information from Chrysler to add a brake controller and use the factory existing wiring to the factory 7 way plug. This part number 22121 looks to fill in a gap of parts, but again does not look to address a factory wired system already installed, that I can tell at this first look of this information. In investigating a brake controller for the TandC in the past, etrailer did not believe a factory installed towing package existed. I can sent a picture of the rear of the car that proves it does. In the past, did not see this part number 22121, Does etrailer have another part number or information on this part number to add a brake controller to the 2016 TandC with factory installed towing wiring and factory installed 7 way plug? Note that Chrysler consumer service and the car dealer has been contacted in the past with no success. Note, I have installed a brake controller from etrailer in other vehicle with good success using provided information.

There certainly is a way to install a brake controller in your 2016 Chrysler Town and Country but our brake controller manufacturers have stated that there is no brake controller pre-wiring in your vehicle so you'll have to hardwire it in.

Since you have a 7-Way you will only need a few more components to complete a brake controller install on your vehicle.

First let's start with a brake controller. I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to set up.

Next, for a wiring kit to install the brake controller and the 7-way adapter you would want the Wiring Kit for 2 and 4 Brake Electric Brake Controllers # 5506. This will provide the power source and ground for the wiring for the brake controller. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not applied. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to.

Finally you will need to run a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) from the brake output circuit of the controller to the brake output circuit of the 7-way (blue wire). The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot so you will need to order a quantity of the amount of feet you will need.
