Question:

reading on previously asked questions, you say: Next, you will need the wiring to install the controller and the wiring to add a 6-Way. To add a 6-Way, you will first need to have a 4-Way trailer connector on the truck. If it does not already have one, you will need to add one. why? I have on my truck a 6 way installed but only 4 wires inside brown, white, green and yellow which operated the trailer lights perfectly. Dont I just need to run 2 extra wires in the plug black and blue? -black that goes to the positive side of the batterie thrue a 40 amp circuit breaker -blue to the break controller

Yes, since you already have a 6-way trailer connector installed that has some of its connection made, just those for basic trailer lighting, you need only to make the two additional connections for the output circuit from a trailer brake controller and for the 12V trailer auxiliary power circuit.

On a brake controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 the blue output wire will need to be routed to the 6-way, to either the center pin or the pin at the 10:00 position. This depends on how your trailer is wired; both formats are in common use (please refer to the linked article on wiring).

The 12V power circuit will run from the vehicle battery through a 40-amp breaker, to the other pin.

All you will need are the controller itself and the installation kit # 5506. A brake controller install article is linked for you too.
