Question:
In the owners manual, it is written that I can only tow 1000 lbs without the original towing package. I have a boat weighting about 3000 to 3500 lbs. If I buy and install a hitch, can I tow the boat? Is there any wiring in the Cadillac from the battery to the hitch already installed by the company? How about the GM warranty after installation of the hitch. I read that the towing package includes a bigger cooling system, maybe for the transmission? Is it neccessary to add this as well if I tow my boat only twice a year for about 1.5 hours each way? Thanks for your help.

For your 2017 Cadillac XT5 AWD, the manufacturer's specs outlined in your owners manual are the specs we recommend going by so you don't void your warranty. Adding a trailer hitch, transmission cooler, oil cooler or any other parts will not void your warranty as you are protected by the the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. This act states, in part, that unless the installation and the part caused a problem then the warranty cannot be voided. I recommend looking it up online.
The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver-Black Matte Finish - 2" # e62AR is my recommendation for your vehicle and it has a mounting bracket that will be compatible with your trailer wiring as well. For that wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package # 118276 or the 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118720 if a wiring harness is present behind the bumper knockout where the hitch installs. If it is not there, then I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT. You will also want the mounting bracket # 18144 for a 4-way.
For a ball mount, I recommend the etrailer.com kit # 989900 which will give you different options for level towing with multiple trailers. It also comes with the storage case and hitch pins needed as well.
If you are interested in an oil and transmission cooler, I recommend the Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler with Multiple Threads # D15902 along with the snap-in adapter # D13035.
