Updated 04/06/2018 | Published 04/05/2018 >
Question:
I am not getting a trailer connection with my new 2017 Dodge Ram truck. My current boat trailer has a 2007 Hydrastar electric over hydraulic controller. Truck does not recognize when trailer is connected. Any help appreciates?

Sounds like your Hydrastar actuator is not being recognized by the integrated braker controller of your 2017 Ram 2500. This is a fairly common problem and the solution is the adapter part # HBA-CAM. This adapter allows your integrated controller to sense that a trailer is connected and activate the Hydrastar to control the trailer brakes.
You will need to verify that your Hydrastar serial number is higher than 506100 though.
If not you'd have to go with an aftermarket brake controller that is setup for the EOH brakes like the P3 # 90195. To install this in your Ram you'd only need the install harness # 3024-P and to check out the help article I attached below on bypassing factory Ram controllers.
