Question:
Can you tell me the spacing on the vertical holes. Would a 3inch u bracket work in there. I want to mount in the other direction. Item # CE10162GA

The distance between the each of the three holes on the bracket # CE10162GA that you referenced is 1-1/2 inches.
Based on this you'd fit a 3 inch U-bolt in them if you skipped a hole.
