Question:

The Best weight distribution stabilizing hitch ??? I have a 2016 Toyota Tacoma Off road package. I am purchasing from a private seller a 2015 Skyline Dart Travel Trailer 214BH 24 feet. Dry weight of 3850 lbs. I have read the Andersen No Sway 3324 hitch is the best. However, not purchasing our rig from a dealer, the local rv centers in my area are zero help. They say they dont carry that hitch due to returns and customer dissatisfaction. They only sell hitches that must be put on by the dealers. I purchased the Tekonsha 3017-P wiring adapter and the Tekonsha P3 brake box from etrailer.com. Can you please help me with the best option? Opinion? Recc? Thank you,

I'd be happy to help you find the best weight distribution system for your 2016 Toyota Tacoma to haul your 2015 Skyline Dart 214BH travel trailer. In order to choose the best weight distribution system you will need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go Skyline plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your '16 Tacoma. The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you.

From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

Based on my research, your Skyline trailer has a GVWR of 6,200 lbs; depending on how much cargo you have behind your Tacoma's axle your total tongue weight would be in the 900 lbs - 1,000 lbs range. And though we do not carry the Andersen hitch there are high-quality options available and I recommend the Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET.
