All three of the hitches offered for your 2008 Outlander would require that the exhaust be lowered to provide access to the attachment points in the frame. Our installers routinely use a ratchet strap to provide support to the exhaust once it is removed from the exhaust hangers. The purpose of the strap is to control the descent of the exhaust so it does not fall too rapidly and damage something. The exhaust hangers are very easy to remove, simply spray the metal hanger that passes through them with WD40 or some other spray lubricant. In a pinch, you can use some liquid dish washing detergent and water. The hangers will easily pry off the mounting studs.

Of the three hitches offered for your Outlander, all are very similar and would install in the same manner using the same attachment points. The Curt Class III, part # 13581 is the least expensive, and would work great for you.

You might also need the following items:

Trailer Wiring Harness with 4-pole Connector, part # 118518
Ball Mount, part # AMSC2
1-7/8 Inch Trailer Ball, part # 19260
2 Inch Trailer Ball, part # 19247

I will provide links to the install instructions of the Curt, Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch Receivers available for your Outlander. I will also link you to an install video showing the Hidden Hitch model being installed on a 2007 Outlander. The install procedure for the Curt will be identical to that shown in the video.
