5th wheel hitch...fixed. i have a 06 2500hd chevy with a fixed hitch on a short box...never had a problem. now, i am looking at a 2018 gmx sierra 3500hd with a puck system/short box. what hitch are you recommending?

If you use the Demco GM fifth wheel rail kit adapter part # DM6194 or Reese Adapter # RP49FR in the bed of your 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 you can install a fixed hitch in the bed of your truck like the Reese M5 fifth wheel hitch part # RP30928 which has a great jaw design which will provide a very smooth ride quality.
