Question:
I have a 2017 Suburban that came with the OEM base trailering package which includes the trailer hitch and 7 Pin wiring harness connector. Can the following unit be self installed connecting under the steering wheel vs. being run to the rear of vehicle/7 PIn Connector? Also, is this the correct unit?. Yes, the unit can be self-installed. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 is compatible with your 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. Of course, you will also need the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3016. To begin your install, you will need to locate the manufacturer's brake controller port. The port itself is underneath the black cover here on the driver's side, between the parking brake and brake pedal.
I have two videos attached that shows how to do the install step-by-step. The first video is an install on a 2015 Tahoe. The second video is on a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 installing a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. However, the steps we take to install the wiring in this video a very similar process you are going to take to install on your vehicle.
