Recommendation for Lightest 5th Wheel Hitch for 2018 Ford F-150
Updated 05/20/2020 | Published 01/31/2018 >
Question:
I am looking for a light weight 5th Wheel solution for my 2018 F150. Thought about the Andersen. They have a Rail and Gooseneck model. Can you recommend lighter weight rail and gooseneck assembly options for me to consider for my 2018 F150. Hoping to keep the whole assembly under 100 lbs and not sure whether the gooseneck or rail would be better. Thanks

If your 2018 Ford F-150 has an 8 foot bed, the lightest solution for a fifth wheel hitch is going to be with the Andersen Ultimate Connection # AM3200. This is a uniquely designed system that includes a coupler adapter to attach to the fifth wheel trailer's king pin. The base itself will then mount to any industry-standard, above-bed base rails in the truck bed. The entire assembly weighs just 40 pounds and has a towing capacity of 20,000 pounds.
If you still need base rails for your truck, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails # RP50087-58. This kit includes custom brackets that will use existing holes in the truck's frame to reduce drilling and drastically shorten installation time. These industry-standard rails will be compatible with the above mentioned Andersen adapter.
I have attached written installation instructions for these products that you can also take a look at.

What other option would you recommend as a base for a Ford F250 w/ puck system? I believe there are the Demco DM6175 and the Reese RP30156. The Demco is almost 100 lbs while the Reese is 56 lbs if I am not mistaken. My fifth wheel weights less than 10k dry. Do you see a reason why I should get the Demco over the Reese to use with the Ultimate AM3200? Or do you have other base to suggest? Thank you.
