Do You Keep Steering Wheel Locked Or Unlocked When Flat-Towing Front Wheel Drive Vehicle

Updated 01/30/2018 | Published 01/29/2018

Question:

When towing a front wheel drive, it should be in in park but does the steering column need to be locked or unlocked? The column does not lock on this vehicle. Thanks.

Many front-wheel drive vehicles can not be flat-towed so always check the owner's manual for special instructions or suggestions. I looked in the Owner's Manual of your 2016 Ford Transit Connect and it can not be flat-towed because the transmission can be damaged. Instead, your Ford Transit is to be towed with the front wheels off of the ground with a tow dolly like the Roadmaster Tow Dolly, Item # RM-2050-1. Whatever dolly you choose, make sure it has the weight capacity needed to tow your Ford Transit.

I have attached additional information and a video for you to check out. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
