How to Determine the Correct Replacement Springs Bars for a Blue Ox Weight Distribution System

Published 01/26/2018

Question:

I bought a Blue Ox hitch set up when I purchased my Grand Design 2800BH which had a tongue weight of 585lbs. I have upgraded my camper to an Open Range 328BHS which has a tongue weight of 1280lbs. Was wondering if the 2000lb bars from Blue Ox would be sufficient for this camper. The dry weight of the camper is 9860lbs. Thanks!

The Replacement Spring Bars for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System part # BXW4008 are best suited for a towing setup with a total tongue weight (TTW) between 1,000 and 1,500 lbs. The TTW is calculated by adding the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer by an weight stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. As long as these two things do not exceed 1,500 lbs then the above spring bars will work well for you.

However, if the TTW of your towing setup exceeds 1,500 lbs then you will want to use the Replacement Spring Bars for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System part # BXW4014 which are best suited for a TTW between 1,500 lbs and 2,000 lbs.

An easy way to find the TTW of your towing setup would include the use of a tongue weight scale like part # e99044. I have included a review video of the spring bars and scale for you as well.
