Question:

I own a 2014 Nissan Rogue with a naked roof. It does appear to have a channel on each side of the car running front to back near the doors. It is trimmed/ filled in with a black plastic plug or gasket. The Nissan dealer mechanic looked at it and determined it was for the OEM side rails, if I wanted to pay them like 1400 dollars to put some on. Does this mean there are fixed points of attachment on my roof ? Would I be able to get some crossbars permanently attached to my roof? Im looking at putting a rooftop tent on it, so it needs to be able to transport nearly 200 lbs, and when stationary be able to support the weight of our family . 2 adults, 2kids .

This is a great kit for your application because the bars are supported from underneath. Though this isn't a completely permanent kit (It uses clamps) it does have supported bars, a key feature for roof top tents (RTTs).

RTT manufacturers tend to have different recommendations about how to mount and what they require in terms of weight capacity, so you'll need to check your tent's specific requirements prior to purchase to make sure you can employ it on your vehicle.
