Video Transcript for DIY Install: Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs on your 2016 Nissan Rogue

Today on our 2016 Nissan Rogue we're going to be taking a look at the Rhino Rack Roof Rack System, consisting of part numbers RRVA126S-2. That's going to be the Vortex arrow bars. Part number RRRLKVA, that's going to be the 2500-series legs and part number DK396, that's going to be the fit kit. The crossbars are made of an anodized aluminum, so they're going to be strong and durable and resist corrosion. The elliptical design of the bar is going to reduce wind noise and drag. The weather stripping is going to keep dirt and debris out of the channels as well as provide a slip-resistant surface for any of your mounted accessories.

The crossbars are 49 inches long. They have a weight capacity of 165 pounds. Now you do want to make sure you check with the manufacturer that your roof can handle that. They also come in a quantity of two. Now everything you see does come with a kit. We already have one bar installed on our vehicle and one side of our other bar completed.

We'll go ahead and put the other side together. First, you're going to take your base plate here and mind the position of the arrow. That's always going to be facing away from the vehicle. Then you're going to take your rubber pad, and you're going to put it on to the bottom of here. Again, you want to mind the arrow.

The arrow is going to be facing towards the front of the vehicle. We're just going to take our pad, and we're going to slip it on there. You'll see these grooves right here and on the bottom of your foot, these two rods. You're just going to pop it on to there. Now you're going to take your clamp and you're going to remove this bolt. You're going to place your clamp with the hook facing in like that, line up the hole, and replace the bolt loosely for now.

You will notice there's a little plate right here. You may have to loosen this bolt up, but we're going to take that plate, and we're going to line up our foot with our crossbar. Now we're going to measure from the end of the channel right here, and we're going to line up our foot pad, the edge of our footpad, like so. You'll find the measurement for your application in the instructions. Once we have it in the position we need, we'll go ahead and tighten up our foot pad. I do want to mention one of the nice things about the included tool, it is a torque tool. The curved piece here, when you know you've reached the right torque, it will straighten out, and you don't need to tighten it any more. Now with the bar fully assembled, we can go ahead an open up the doors and get ready to place it on our vehicle. With your bar in a general position that you want it, the manufacturer does say you need to measure from the center of this crossbar to the center of this crossbar. You'll find that measurement in your instructions. We do want to make sure that we measure both sides, so everything is square. With our bar in position, we're going to go ahead and tighten it up, making sure that we alternate between both sides. What I like to do is tighten up one side until I make contact, switch to the other side, and alternate, making sure that I tighten each side equally. Again, the provided torque tool, the curved part, is going to straighten out when you know you've reached the proper torque. Like that, and then you know you don't need to tighten it any more. Another nice feature is that the end caps are locking, so you don't have to worry about any tampering or theft. We'll go ahead and put those on now. In our final step, we'll be putting our end caps in. Simply place them in, and they are locking as well. We'll put the other one on the other side. Now we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. That will finish up the look at the Rhino Rack Roof Rack on our 2016 Nissan Rogue.

Ended up putting this on my 2019 Nissan Rogue. The end result looks great. Because my car is newer the measurements it came with in the directions were incorrect. So if you are putting it on a newer vehicle you have to just kind of wing it or find the proper measurements elsewhere, which is a bit time consuming but definitely worth it. It whistles a little on the highway but I’m sure it can be adjusted so it won’t. All parts fit well and it looks great!

Very easy to put together. Once together it was even easier to install on top of my car. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I am thrilled that I got this roof rack. Now I don't have to rely on other people and their cars to move stuff. Now I just have to wait till next ski season before they get full use

Worked out perfectly for my 2019 Nissan Rogue! Takes some time to get the racks/legs in the right position(s), but once done and locked down...they're rock solid, and have been for the last year!

by:

Great product, easy install, I did have to adjust the feet to different measurements than what came with the unit, ski/fishing pole holder fits well and the skinny cargo basket is sturdy. Also looks good on wigs car.
We take a lot of road trips with our kids and enjoy our dogs company she can now ride in the back while our gear is out of the car, great solution.

The salesperson at eTrailer was great helping me get the right fit kit to use my existing rack system on a different vehicle. Always a great experience.

by:

I’ve had it for a year now and it’s holding up just like new! I take out off during the winter which is actually a really simple process. The attachments go on easily by hand and it’s Super durable roof rack. Very pleased

by:

I was a little concerned these wouldn't fit a Nissan Rogue, but the kit worked great. The product was backordered initially and etrailer's customer support was terrific about keeping me updated.

by:

Installation was easy. I’ve used this roof rack for a year and it’s been great! I’ve hauled kayaks, furniture, a Christmas tree, and more. Would buy again.

Where do I start?

I've been whitewater
kayaking for 22 or so years now. I've always used used either Yakima or Thule products...

Until I bought a 2015 Nissan Rogue with a naked roof. The curvature of the roof and large door jams mean that Yakima and Thule can't make racks for them. I went to a place that does custom installs and again because of the curvature of the roof, they couldn't give me a rack. This meant no kayaking which is really bad news.

Enter the Rhino rack system. I purchased the feet, the fit kit, the cross bars and a Yakima "big stack" stacker. The first issue I had is the reccomended size for the Nissan Rogue is only 48 inches. Way too small too haul 4-5 (very light) whitewater kayaks. I called etrailer and they were SUPER helpful, told me I can buy the 65 in cross bars and they'll work fine.

I held my breath and placed my order. I was nervous leaving my trusted name brands. The order arrived super fast (they told me it would arrive by Friday but it actually arrived on Thursday) and everything was packaged rock solid. I was impressed.

I read the instructions and put the rack system on my car. It took about a hour (it was hot and I worked slowly) but the rack system is SUPER SOLID. I love it. Rhino might have a "forever" customer out of me.

-The rack system is very stable. I can't move it with my hands by pushing or pulling.
-The rubber stripping you put on the top and bottom of the bar is an awesome added feature AND it reduces wind noise.
-Adding the fairing reduced wind noise even further. With four boats on the roof you couldn't hear any extra noise.

The ONE thing I dislike is that you need to use the supplied Allen wrench to take the rack on and off the car. It's a small complaint, but other systems I've used in the past don't have them.

I paid much less for this system than I would have if I purchased one of the aforementioned systems, but I'm really really satisfied with the product. We will see how well it holds up over long-term use, but it looks awesome!

I bought this roof rack kit for my 2015 Nissan Rogue awd 5-dr. The shipping time was excellent and everything arrived together and undamaged. The instructions are simple and easy to follow and I had it put together and ready to mount in about 30 min. Aligning it on the roof is definitely easier with two people, but can be done alone. The forward rack's rubber feet fit seamlessly on the roof of my car and tightened snugly with no worries of it flying off. Be sure to follow the directions for the included torque wrench and everything will form perfectly. The rear rack's rubber feet form is a little off and they don't sit flush with the car's body, but after torquing to the required tightness the rear rack fit securely with only a tiny gap between the body and feet. On the road, I made it up to 75 mph before any whistling was noticed, but some music at mid volume drowned it out. Be sure to cut the rubber and fit everything as precise as possible. This will prevent drag and whistling. The quality of the metal and plastic isn't as high as other brands, but when those other brands don't fit your car you have to compromise and this would be my top pick.

Love the rhino rack system. I just need to remember to check the tightness of everything each time I use it. My wife and I purchased this to put kayaks up on her Rogue which had not roof racks. This system is easy to use and works great. We have now added the rhino stack for the kayaks and can fit more up there! Thanks etrailer.

Installed the roof rack myself in just a little while. As long as you pay attention to your measurements, the installation goes brilliantly. I tightened the hardware once that summer and once here in the spring. Just to make sure everything was still snug. My only issue was the whistling from the bars. My fault for buying the square bars but, a little fill and wrap on the bars and the whistle is gone. Very sturdy assembly which handles out 10' and 12' kayaks (and the occasional trip to the local big box store strapping stuff to the roof rack) with no issues.

WOW! 1 Year in Review! ha! Its STRONG! Not only have I transported our Car carrier with stuff but its handled lots of trips to Home DepotLowes for Lots of Wood Products on top of it! ha! The Rubber inlay is great for stopping any slippage of items tied to it. Pro Tip: Place items rather than slide itmes on it as the rubber will wear down. Other than that its been great. Pollin is kinda very lightly sicking to rubber but not too much wear and tear. Its holding up as if it were brand new. Heck its basically still brand new. Well worth the investment. Sticker also helps people know who may want to purchase one. Great product. Im going to purchase another one for my other car just added to the faimly. Cheers from CT.

I installed the Rhino roof rack system on our 2016 Nissan Rogue and then drove about 6000 miles on a camping road trip. Great product, stayed secure the whole time, never had to retighten or anything!

by:

Rack fit nice and installed easy. Able to shake the whole car by grabbing on the rack so they are definitely not coming off.

by:

Simple to follow directions that made this install quick and easy. The bars are nice and solid. I am much happier with the Rino Rack than with the sportrack.

by:

I got the roof rack mounted anyways. Better pics to come when it's all finished!

by:

I was a little hesitant to order the rack as previously tried have not fit my Nissan Rogue.
The shipment came in super fast and the installation took me about an hour. I got a little confused with the rubber pads but once I figured it out, the rest went smoothly.
The rack fits well and looks great on my car. I have yet to test it - hopefully it’ll hold my kayak and I can finally enjoy it.

Installed the rhino rack kit on my 2017 Nissan Rogue. Fits really good and easy to install. Fast shipping too. I have a rack for my prius as well from etrailer.com and love there products. I installed a roof basket on my rack also. It also makes your ride look cool as well as functional.

In that question, the customer may have been referring to the towing capacity of their vehicle being a maximum tongue weight of 110lbs. That information can be found in your owners manual. So the lowest of the two numbers is what you go with in regards to towing capacity. So please check the towing capacity...

Roof rack systems are always limited by the weakest point, be it the rack or the vehicle roof. For your 2016 Nissan Rogue with a naked roof I recommend the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK396 as this gives you the same quality as a Thule roof rack with aero bars at a better price. It's just as easy to install and since it has aero shaped bars like I mentioned it will minimize wind noise as well. This also will work well with Thule roof cargo boxes as well. The install video link I attached shows this rack installed on a 2016 Rogue just like yours.

I recommend going with the Rhino-Rack Vortex roof rack system on your 2017 Nissan Rogue because it uses aero-style crossbars for a quieter ride plus you can leave them on all the time (except when going through an auto car wash) and they will compliment the looks of your vehicle as they are the newer style of crossbar. The parts you need for this setup include the following: 49" Vortex Crossbars # RRVA126B-2 2500 Series Legs - # RRRLKVA Fit Kit - # DK396 The legs come with locks to secure...

  • Will the Yakima LoadWarrior Cargo Basket fit a 2016 Nissan Rogue
I checked with Yakima and found that the LoadWarrior cargo basket # Y07070 will fit the factory roof rack and crossbars on a 2016 Nissan Rogue. If your Rogue does not have factory crossbars that run side to side you would first need some to be able to mount the basket. If your 2016 Rogue has the factory side rails that run front to back you can add crossbars using SportRack roof rack # SR1098. This is a low cost option that will work great for this application. If your Rogue does not...

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2016 Nissan Rogue
For your 2016 Nissan Rogue there are two available roof styles. If you have a naked roof you will want the part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK396 to complete a roof rack. If you instead have raised side rails on the roof of your vehicle you would want the Evo Raised Rail Feet # TH710401 and 53" WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711420.
