Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring for 2012 Kia Sedona

Published 01/05/2018

Question:

I am looking to install a hitch on my 2012 Kia Sedona. I would like to be able to haul a small U-haul trailer and a small boat. I was quoted $435 for the parts and installation by an auto store. That seems expensive so I would like to try the install on my own. I need to know: What is everything I would need to purchase from your site to be up and running? I know I need a hitch do I have different class options?. Then will I need to separately purchase wiring, ball mount and/or hitch balls? Thank you for your assistance.

Installation of the parts for your 2012 Kia Sedona is definitely something you can do. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13345 for your trailer hitch which comes with all the mounting bolts and should take about 15 minutes to install because there are already nuts welded inside your frame so it is simply adding bolts and washers then torqueing them to spec. I've attached a video to assist.

For your wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118410. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Kia Sedona's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse. Again, I've attached a video of this install for you.

I recommend using wiring bracket # 18140 and # 18144 to secure your wiring to your hitch receiver. You will also want a ball mount kit, such as # 989900 to provide you with a number of towing set-up options. I've linked a help article on how to choose the correct ball mount for you.
