Best Suspension Upgrade for a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 with Arctic Fox Truck Bed Camper

Question:

I have a 99 Dodge Ram 2500 quad cab, long bed 4x4 and carry a slide-in camper. I have Firestone air springs that help quite a bit. However, I still get a fair amount of roll. At this time, I can afford to replace only one of the two sway bars. Which do you recommend replacing first? Will replacing the front one dramatically effect ride quality when the bed is empty?

For your 1999 Dodge Ram 2500, I recommend replacing the rear sway bar first since the majority of the added weight is placed on the rear suspension. Adding a front or rear sway bar will not affect the ride quality. The Firestone airbags you have work great for helping to evenly distribute the added weight but will not compare with an upgraded sway control bar as far as reduced body roll goes.

I recommend taking a look at the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar part # RM-1129-122. The Roadmaster sway bar replaces your factory sway bar and comes with everything you will need for installation including end links, bushings, brackets, and hardware. I always recommend upgrading the sway bar and end links for vehicles with truck bed campers installed as you may have noticed, the added high-center load creates excessive body roll while turning and upgraded sway bars are the only real way to combat this issue.
