We got a Blue Ox tow bar for our 2008 Hond CRV. We are considering upgrading to a 2012 CRV. Will we be able to transfer the existing system to the newer car?

If you are talking about Blue Ox base plates then you will need to get a new base plate kit.
The correct kit for your 2008 Honda CR-V is part # BX2246 while the kit for a 2012 CR-V is part # BX2258. IF you have a Blue Ox two bar, like the Alpha # BX7380, then you can use it with either kit.
Keep in mind that a complete flat towing setup includes the base plate kit, a tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and usually a high-low adapter. If you do not have any of these parts just let me know and I can help you to complete your flat towing setup.
