Recommended Transmission Fluid and Engine Oil Cooler Combo for a 2006 Ford F-150 5.4L V8 Engine

Question:

After looking at my truck for clearance, I noticed that there is already a stock transmission cooler. The transmission gets pretty hot when I am towing, so I think I would still like to install the combo kit that you mentioned. The only question is can I replace the not kit with the existing one and still use the same hoses?

I have the perfect engine oil and transmission fluid cooler combo for the 5.4L V8 engine in your 2006 Ford F-150. The Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler with Multiple Threads part # D15902 uses one unit to cool both engine oil and transmission fluid. The combo cooler eliminates the need for a separate engine oil and transmission fluid cooler to be installed which ultimately blocks large amounts of airflow to your truck's radiator. As long as you have 17" wide x 12-1/2" tall x 3/4" deep of space to mount this cooler in front of your radiator/condenser behind you grill then it will work well for you.

The above kit comes with everything you will need to run the engine oil lines and transmission fluid lines to and from the cooler. The engine oil sandwich adapter comes with multiple thread pitches for your engine but you will only need to use the M22x1.5 adapter which is the one with the green marking.

You do not need to remove the factory transmission cooler. The cooler I recommended can be used in conjunction with the factory transmission cooler you have and works better this way. I have attached a quick sketch I made for installation. The sketch is just for the transmission line portion of the process but I believe this gives an ideal of how it works. The kit comes with everything you will need to install (lines/fittings) for the exception of basic tools. The feed line is commonly referred to as the "hot" line whereas the return line is referred to as the "cold" line. This instructions included with the kit will explain this but the best way to determine which line is which would be to run the vehicle and touch the lines.
