Question:

Three questions: 1. Do Glacier cable snow tire chains part #PW1042 fit on 225/50R18 tires? 2. Will they damage my vehicle? The owners manual says not to use chains because they will. 3. When chains are legally required, do these suffice? I dont want to buy them and then be turned back. Thanks.

Yes, the Glacier Chains Cables, part # PW1042, fit on 225/50-18 sized tires. On a rim that size I recommend # TCMA2 for the rubber adjusters.

Vehicle manufacturers often state in the owner's manual that you can't use tire chains because they might make contact with some part of the car. This is basically a liability thing for them. We haven't test fit the cables on a 2017 Subaru Legacy so I can't say for sure if there will be contact or not but it's pretty unlikely. The only way to know for sure is to put them on and see how much clearance you have once they're installed.

When chains are required by law cables are generally accepted. With that being said, I'd check with the DOT in the area you'll be traveling because laws differ from place to place and change pretty frequently.
