Question:

It says this light bar will fit on a jeep commander. Is it mounted to the roof rack on the commander or meant to be mounted to a different kind of mount not included?

The MaxxTow Off Road Light Kit part # MT80636 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2006 Jeep Commander. You can use the included hardware for a universal style mount, but the easiest solution would be a light bar mount like the part # CARR210341 and # CARR220051 which is also a fit for your Commander which will make the install much easier.
