Fulton F2 Swing-Up Jack for a T@B TAB Tear Trailer with a 1.5

Published 10/05/2017

Question:

We have a “T@B” camper trailer with a round, side-wind, tongue mounted, trailer jack. Problem is it hangs down about 4” and catches on the ground when going through big dips and gets bent. The trailer only weighs 1700#, 200# tongue weight, and level to ground is 12” from the bottom of the frame. Tongue frame is 1-1/2” x 4-1/2”. I like the idea of the Fulton Swingup, but not sure it will work on this odd frame. Any suggestions?

I think the Fulton F2 Swing-Up Jack is a good choice. The model for 4 - 5" frames is # F1413140334. The 1600 lb. tongue weight rating is much more than you need, but won't affect the function of the jack. The height will work and it will get the jack level with the tongue when traveling. My only concern would be that you have enough space on your frame for the jack to swing up. You will need approximately 25" of frame space that is free from other accessories to allow the jack to swing up. I've attached a photo and a video of the installation of a similar F2 jack on trailer so that you can see how it will look folded up during travel. I've also attached our article on trailer jacks that you may find helpful.

If you don't have the room for the swing-up jack, I have another option that may work. While researching T@B trailers I noticed that many use A-frame jacks. You could go with a Pro Series Jack like # PS1401000303 that measures just 5 1/2" from the mounting plate to the bottom of them jack when retracted. If you purchase the footplate, # PS1400700340, it will not hang down as low as a wheel and may solve your problem. You could always swap the foot plate out for the wheel, # PS1400750340, when you get to your destination. Using the wheel reduces the tongue weight (TW) capacity to 1200 lb, but since your TW is just 750 lb, this won't be an issue.

Be sure to check out our other camping accessories at the link I've provided. My favorite camping item is the Stake and Grill # GR-1522 for cooking over a campfire hands-free. I've gotten a lot of use out of mine. Happy camping!
