Question:
Im looking to replace the brake pads on my boat trailer and need help identifying what to get. Can I get this off the vin from the trailer?

Expert Reply:
Trailer manufacturers do not often maintain specs for smaller items like brakes/brake pads used in production of their trailers so the VIN will not usually help, but you may be able to at least get the brake brand from the manufacturer. Knowing the axle weight capacity is important to selecting the right brake parts.
The part you referenced, Kodiak # K225CP, fits Kodiak disc brake calipers for axles rated from 3500- to 6000-lbs. These and all similar disc brake pads (and drum brake shoes) are shown on the linked page. Click on your brake type and on your brand to see all replacements.
When doing any work on brakes I recommend working on only one side of the trailer at a time (and taking some photos helps too) so that you can see how things went together.
