Question:
I have a 2015 Subaru Forester and a 2013 Toyota Rav 4 both with factory side rails, no crossbars. I am making a move from NY to Arizona and need some extra room for storage. I am buying and installing 2 inch hitches on both vehicles. Can you please offer me some advice on the pros and cons of roof cargo bags vs 2 inch hitch cargo baskets with cargo bags.

The biggest pro for a roof cargo bag is that the price is a bit lower due to the fact you only need to buy the bag. With a hitch cargo carrier you have to buy and install the hitch, buy a cargo carrier, and buy a bag. Aside from that the hitch option is easier to install as you aren't reaching on the roof of the vehicle. The cargo is more out of the wind/weather etc so it will be better protected and is typically better secured since hitches mount directly to the vehicle frame.
Since you are already planning on installing hitches on both vehicles the cargo carrier route is going to be a better solution. The Pro Series carrier part # 63153 would be a great choice and then for a bag the part # 988501 would work well too.
