Can Grease Hubs on Shorelandr Trailer Be Converted to Oil Bath Hubs
Updated 09/08/2017 | Published 09/07/2017 >
Question:
I have a new Shorelander trailer w/ bearing buddies 5 lug nut hub. I loved the oil bath system on my previous trailer and would like to convert my new trailer, but the all-aluminum Reliable brand oil bath caps. Can you tell me where I might find these, and if there are any additional parts seals, threaded sleeves, etc. Ill need to complete the conversion? Are there any reasons I should NOT do the conversion? Thanks.

Whether or not your existing hubs can be converted to oil bath units depends on the type of hubs you have on your Shorelandr Trailer. For many standard, grease trailer hubs, it is not possible to make this conversion because oil bath hubs use an oil cap that threads onto the end of the hub. Most regular hubs are not threaded so you would not be able to screw on the cap. In this case, you would simply need to replace the hub assembly with specific, oil bath hubs.
If you are able to convert your hubs, you can use a kit like the Kodiak XL ProLube Kit # XLPROLUBE1980KIT. The kit includes a bottle of bearing lubricant, 2 inner oil seals and 2 oil bath caps. The kit is designed specifically for 1.98 inch hubs and 3,500 pound axles. I have also included a link that will take you to our available selection of oil caps. We do not currently carry the Reliable brand caps.
If you are able to tell me the inner and outer bearing numbers on your existing hubs, I can determine if there is a way to replace them with an oil bath system.
