Question:

We have a 4 horse slant load and tack room gooseneck trailer. Can you point me in the right direction of rewiring it and what all I need to do so? Also what are the lighting requirements for a trailer of this size? We live in TN. The trailer is 20 ft body with 7 ft knock, 6 lug ez live axes dont know capacity. Would like to do 7 way as thats what most HD trucks seem to have and doesnt that also enable reverse lights to be hooked up? It's wired but it's an awful mess. Wanting to completely rework it right

If you check out the attached picture it shows how the wiring on a trailer should look. If you already have all of the wiring that you need for a 7-Way and you are just wanting a way to organize it then I recommend installing the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit # HS381-9000.

This kit includes a junction box and ring terminals which make connecting the wiring to a 7-Way connector very easy and helps to keep things organized. The installation locations are labeled to help take the guesswork out of the equation. The only thing that you need to make sure that you do is mount it in a place where it will stay relatively dry. I have attached a video of this kit being installed on a trailer that you can use as a reference.

If you are looking to replace some wiring on your trailer then you can use the attached "Trailer Wiring Color Code" diagram for the typical colors and minimum gauge wiring. Keep in mind that not all wire colors will match this guide and so your best bet is to either trace the wires to their function, or use a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 and run through the various functions with your trailer connected to your tow vehicle.
