Question:
I have a 2014 chevy w2. Im wanting to use extra reverse lights for winter and I have the lights mounted on bed rails, I have a clean unused 7-way plug, I have wire to connect the 2 lights to the plug. But what I dont have is everything wired correctly to work when I put the truck in reverse. I know I can ground the lights and then splice into the existing reverse lights but Im wanting to stay away from that. How can I hook the led lights to the plug and it work when I shift to reverse, have it easily accessible to unplug durging off season or when pulling a trailer, and not have to damage anything in the process.?

Expert Reply:
When installing the additional LED reverse lights on your 2014 Chevy, you can tap into the 7-Way on the vehicle by connecting to the center pin's wire at the back of the connector. This is typically the reverse light circuit, although you can double check by using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Once connected, this will power the lights only when the truck is in reverse.
You will also just need to make sure that the new lights are grounded properly, either through the mounting hardware if they only have one wire, or to a clean bare metal surface if the assemblies have a dedicated ground wire.
