Troubleshooting Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller Displaying "r" Code
Updated 08/24/2017 | Published 08/23/2017 >
Question:
I have used this trailer for 4 years and noticed the brakes were not working recently. Turns out, 3 of the 4 sets of brake shoes were affected by too much grease. I cleaned everything up and changed the brake pads on those 3 and adjusted the brakes to have a little drag with the wheel off the ground. Finally done or so I thought I got into my van to test and set the braking level only to find I am getting a .r code and no braking at all. I cant find what this means. I didnt change any wiring. Can someone steer me in the right direction please?

The "r" that you mentioned seeing on the display for your Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 indicates that the unit is in reverse mode. The only way to go into reverse mode on this brake controller is to hold the boost button in for 5 seconds. It's very possible that the boost button on your controller is simply stuck, which has been known to happen. The button may have become partially wedged under the outer casing of the controller.
Check the boost button and if this is the case, simply unstick the button and it should go back to working as normal.
