Updated 08/14/2017 | Published 08/12/2017 >
Question:
Hi I have a car transporter trailer that has no plate on it. I was wondering if I could work out a rough carrying capacity. The dimensions are as follows : The bed is 11ft x 5ft 4inches mane of 3inch x 2inch box. The overhang to the hitch is 2ft 6 inches, so the overall length is 13ft 6 inches. It has a single 38mm square axle solid with leaf springs. The leaf spring is 3ft long and consistes of 8 leaves. A total thickness of 2 1/2 inches for the 8 leaves. 14 inch wheels with a pcd of 4 x 113 The load weight on the tyres are 1600 Lbs each. Hopefully I have given enough information. Many Thanks

Based solely on the information you gave, I would guess that you have a capacity between 2000 lbs max and 3500 lbs max. It is not possible for me to determine the exact weight capacity based on dimension. You will need to determine your axle capacity and the capacity of each individual component. The lowest rated component becomes your maximum capacity for your trailer. Based on your tires, you will be limited to 3200 lbs already.
Most of the axles that are 38mm or 1-1/2 inches are 2,000 lbs.
