Does the Cage Pin on the 5th Wheel Landing Gear Hold the Weight of the Trailer

Updated 08/09/2017 | Published 08/08/2017

Question:

been over and over this, cannot seem to grasp it, what exactly does the pin through the inner tube do? if it is ed , is it safe to say, the trailer cannot be lowered any further than the holes though which that pin is ed? And if you the pins, then move your truck off, the only thing holding the trailer in place are those pins on the landing gear? Thanks

Yes, the 3/8" thick cage pins on the landing gear, like the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set # LG-1, are the only thing that is keeping that leg from adjusting once you have them install (see attached picture).

If you are worried about the weight bearing down on them you can rest assured that Stromberg Carlson has done extensive testing to make sure that it is perfectly safe to use. Keep in mind that you should have also chocked the wheels on your trailer and that the landing gear only supports a fraction of the weight of your trailer. The little pin at the bottom is simply a security measure to help keep the landing gear on the foot plate.

For quicker operation you can install the Spring-Loaded Pull Pins # LG-119113 which are confirmed to fit this landing gear set.

I have attached some review videos for you to check out as well.
