Question:
I have question regarding part # C12169 for a 2017 Honda CRV EXL ALL WHEEL DRIVE Prefer the CURT Trailer Hitch over Draw Tite because it appears to be less visible from the back, looking at the 3d picture there appears to be a vertical ear that will fasten to vertical steel member that is on the Honda that would be directly behind and up from the receiver, what I dont understand why this would not be sufficient to support a 2 bike hitch mounted rack without the need for additional straps

Expert Reply:
The use of the stabilization strap # 18050 is purely a Curt construct for their warranty requirements. The hitch, in this case # C12169, can handle a loaded 2 bike rack but if you don't use the strap it voids the hitch warranty.
If you do not want to use the strap then the only remaining option is Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36597. I have also included a video that shows how the strap works if you choose to go with the Curt hitch.
